General Class Information

Did I tell you that there is a special sticker if you bring all your supplies to class on the first day of school? Be Prepared! Great Way To Start!!

2010-2011

Dear Parents,

It is my privilege and joy to be entrusted with your child this year. It is my prayer that they would grow in knowledge both academically and spiritually. I would like this school year to flow as smoothly as possible. Below is a list of helpful information that will ease any stomach jitters that both you and your child might have.

It is important for you and your child to read the following papers together so that everyone is familiar and prepared on the first day of school. I trust that it will be of great help. This is a wonderful opportunity to start the year off successfully. It also helps everyone to be more relaxed because a lot of the "unknowns" have been addressed.

Tour through my web pages throughout the year. Students will be required to open my website on a regular basis for information. One important page will be the Class Announcements and Homework. This page should give you daily homework for all classes. It should be most helpful to follow-up on what assignment/test is due. When your child is absent you should automatically check this page.  I will do my best to keep it up-dated on a daily basis.  Also, remember that I will be transitioning from this page to RenWeb. I'll be sure to keep you informed as this transition takes place.

May I emphasize the importance of contacting me if you feel that your child is having academic or social problems. Please don't wait. It has been my experience - the sooner the better! If you have any questions, please contact me through e-mail - gvanert@lenawee.org, phone - 265-7590 ext. 314, or a note with your child. I will get back with you as soon as possible. God Bless you and your family.

In Christ,

Mrs. Van Ert

Prayer

Andrew Murray wrote, “Time spent in prayer will yield more than that given to work.  Prayer alone gives work its worth and its success.  Prayer opens the way for God Himself to do His work in us and through us.  Let our chief work as God’s messengers be intercession; in it we secure the presence and power of God to go with us.”

My prayers are with you and your child as we work together to make this a successful and fun year.  Please keep me and all the sixth graders in you prayers daily. Pray for wisdom, encouragement and health.  Thank you.

Homework

 DEVELOPING A STUDY HABIT

Our objective this year is to establish a “STUDY HABIT.” If we all work at it together, building a fundamental foundation of studying, students will reap the benefits this year and in the future. Reviewing subjects each night is better than cramming the night before a test. Study a little everyday. This would include memory work such as; Bible memory verse, historical time lines, and vocabulary throughout all my subjects.  I will encourage students to study at least five to ten minutes each night for each subject.

There will be little written homework in my classes. Some of the written work will be in their “<-2OT” (Back to the Old Testament) booklets and a Science Fair Project which will require minimum work at home. Students will receive class reading assignments and individual reading assignments. If either are not completed, they will have to finish it at home.

May I remind you that God has given different abilities and talents to each child. Some students will complete a task faster than others will and some slower. It is my desire that your child feel successful so therefore, if an adjustment is needed to keep one motivated and successful, I will meet with you and discuss what options we can take.
Please keep the communication lines OPEN!

Free Time Passes

"Free Time Passes" will be given to students for various reasons. One way to receive a "Free Time Pass" is not to have any checks in class. Checks are mostly given to students who are not prepared for class, forgetting items in locker or at home, or disrupting class. Some of the rewards that you can receive with the "Free Time Passes" are as follows:

"I Forgot" Locker Pass

Removal of Checks

  Treasure Chest Surprise

Everyone will receive one "Free Time Pass" in each of my classes on the first day of school.

4. In 1960, the average weight of a backpack was two pounds.
5. The current average weight of a backpack is five and a half pounds.
6. Students should carry their backpacks with both straps over shoulders, not with only one strap over one shoulder.

Note To Parents

There may be times when I will ask a student to have their parent write a note to me stating that they are made aware of a poor grade, an incomplete assignment, or not being prepared for class. This is just another way to keep communication lines open and students responsible.
