Lenawee Christian School serves students from a wide variety of Christian faith groups. We recognize that all of us hold our beliefs and convictions strongly. And we affirm this because these beliefs are a vital part of who and what we are.
One of our convictions relates to the importance of the Bible in a Christian education. We believe that God has given us the Bible to reveal truth that we could learn in no other way. We seek to interpret the Bible just as we do other literature—following normal guidelines for understanding written communication.
We believe that God guided the authors of the Bible so that they wrote what He intended them to write without error. And we believe that God has protected the Bible as it’s been transmitted over the centuries so that we have reliable translations available to us today.
At LCS we strive to view all subjects through God’s eyes—seeking to understand how knowing God’s Word makes a difference in our approach to each subject. We refer to this as “Integrating Biblical Truth for Life.”
All Christian faith groups share many common beliefs about what is taught in the Bible and how it applies to life. The LCS Statement of Faith provides more details about our particular beliefs. One question that often arises is, “How does LCS relate to students whose biblical beliefs differ somewhat from LCS’s?” We welcome such students, believing that they enrich the education experience for all students.
Therefore, we never will be disrespectful of any student who disagrees. We embrace two principles that apply to all students. 1) We expect each student to understand the basic belief system of LCS [as summarized in the LCS Statement of Faith]. 2) At the same time, we respect the right of each student to hold individual personal convictions. We will not seek to persuade students to switch churches or denominations. Rather, we desire everyone to develop a personal relationship with God through faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. Our goal is that LCS will encourage each student in his or her personal spiritual journey.
All of our teachers recognize the variety of doctrinal beliefs among the students in their classes. Therefore, when a topic arises where there is difference of conviction, we encourage students both to understand what LCS teaches and to know what they and their families personally believe. We suggest talking about such topics with their parents, their pastor or priest, or church lay teachers. This will help students to understand their own beliefs and to hold their convictions intelligently.
We hope and pray that a serious, reasoned approach to biblical understanding will encourage all students to live godly lives in obedience to the teachings of the Bible and their churches.
