Mrs. Averill began at LCS when the current school building opened in 1986, teaching fourth grade. Prior to her hire, Mrs. Averill taught several different grades at the elementary level for Adrian Public Schools until she and her husband, Gordon, moved to Houston, Texas. There she taught kindergarten in a private school and then worked as a Children’s Director for a large church in the Houston area. Working with several different grade levels throughout her teaching career and producing several children’s musicals for her church helped prepare her for her tenure directing LCS musicals and dramas from 1990-2000. Her exposure to the older students through her work in the theater and her love of classic literature led her to her current teaching role with a passion for Advanced Placement English Literature, Language and Composition.
When she is not reading books or grading essays, she enjoys journaling and spending time in, on, or near Michigan’s lakes and beaches. Her three children, all graduates of Lenawee Christian, are spread across the country from Virginia to Indiana to Arizona. She and her husband spend many hours on the road visiting their children and their eight grandchildren.
After taking a trip to Thailand in 2015 with Destiny Rescue, an organization dedicated to the rescue and restoration of exploited children, Mrs. Averill desires to do what she can to help enslaved children. In the spring of 2017 she helped Lenawee Christian raise over ten thousand dollars for this cause. She hopes to continue to work for their rescue.
Mr. and Mrs. Averill attend Grace Point Evangelical Free Church.
