Jonah Schmucker, a junior at LCS, hasn’t gone missing and he hasn’t skipped school… but we haven’t seen him for a few weeks. Jonah is a part of one of the unique opportunities available to LCS high school students during the iXplore January term; he’s taking classes on the campus of one of our partner universities, Huntington University.
When the iXplore class list was published, several LCS students enrolled in courses that would help them along their spiritual journey, explore scientific endeavors, or pursue their dreams. Jonah took a look at Huntington University’s J-Term courses to get an idea of what he could expect at the next level of education and continue his preparation for his eventual career.
LCS launched the iXplore January term with hopes that students would use this exciting three-week term to challenge their thinking, pursue their passions, and prepare for the road ahead. Jonah’s schedule at Huntington provides opportunities to do all three. His course, “The Beginning of Your Career Journey”, provides guidance for him to match a career with his interests, gifts, talents, values, and abilities. His professor, Martha Smith, is even giving real world experiences to her students, as they shadow professionals at a nearby employer.
It hasn’t been “all work and no play”, however. After speaking with Jonah’s mom, she let us know that he’s had no trouble forming friendships with the students at Huntington University. He’s been able to enjoy student life, participate in outings with Huntington students, and hang out in a residence hall with his roommate. We’re excited to hear that Jonah is having a great time during the iXplore J-term and we look forward to sharing more student stories in the days ahead.
