When Emily Gordon was pulled up to the varsity level, just a few games into her freshman season, she may not have known that her ability to see scoring opportunities on the court would become so refined. Today, Emily sits atop the list of career assists at LCS in girls basketball, with 269 assists, besting the mark set by Betsy Brown in 2009 (215).
Coach Joe Long made the decision in 2013 to bring Emily to the varsity level and he shared these thoughts about his time coaching Emily: “I have cherished working with and watching Emily grow these last four years. She would rather see her teammates score than herself. I truly believe this is why she crushed the career assist record. I have been amazed many times with a pass she has made during a game that I think there is no way she can get it to her teammate and she proves me wrong. She is a great shooter and has moved up the charts in shooting. I will miss having her on our team. Not only is she a great passer and leader. She is a good friend. If I could sum up her play in one word ‘selfless.'”
Congratulations to Emily for striving to reach your full potential on the basketball court and beyond! Go Cougars!
