What makes a Christian school different than the public school down the street? Have you ever put significant thought into it? We all want to keep the students safe. We all want the students to learn to read books and solve math problems. We all want them to be successful in college and in life.
There was a time when the goals and principles of the public education system mirrored the basic principles of a Christian lifestyle. Textbooks contained biblical truth and prayer was acceptable if not encouraged but those days are gone. Once, parents could send their children to a public school and feel secure that each teacher would respect their faith and values, but not anymore. Public schools are filled with biological theories of evolution, sex education and alternative lifestyle classes, rewritten versions of history that match someone’s agenda and regular political propaganda. The worldview is secular at its very core. Does this describe every public school teacher and every individual public school? Certainly not, as I know many, many excellent Christian educators in the public system – but it does describe the public education system as a whole.
What is it that sets Lenawee Christian School apart?
In order to answer this question one must discover the heart of the school. A public school is a secular institution that is built upon the ideas of a particular thinker, a specific type of school program or some unique style of teaching. There is nothing inherently wrong with any of these but at their core – they are distinctly human. If you peel back the layers of Lenawee Christian School you will find Jesus and all of His teachings at our core. Our very foundation is built, not upon the life and teachings of a man, but upon the teachings of God Himself.
When students ask questions such as –
- Why am I here?
- What is my purpose in life?
- Is there a God?
- Is there life after death?
- Am I responsible for the welfare of others?
From which worldview will they be given an answer? Biblical or Secular? The ideas of a human or the teachings of Christ Himself?
- “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalm 119:105)
- “All your precepts…I consider to be right; I hate every false way.” (Psalm 119:128)
- “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” (Psalm 32:8)
