LCS Announces Half-Day Kindergarten and Pre-K Options for 2026–2027 School Year

Adrian, MI — Lenawee Christian School (LCS) is pleased to announce the addition of half-day Kindergarten and half-day Pre-K options beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, offering families a flexible pathway for students who may not yet be ready for a full day of learning.

This new option reflects growing research in early childhood education indicating that children develop at different rates academically, socially, and emotionally. The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) emphasizes the importance of developmentally appropriate learning environments that meet students where they are, particularly in the early years.

The half-day programs at LCS will feature the same curriculum, instructional quality, and Christ-centered foundation as the full-day programs, delivered on a more condensed schedule designed to support younger learners’ attention spans, stamina, and overall readiness.

“From an instructional standpoint, this option gives us the ability to honor where students are developmentally while still providing a strong, consistent foundation for learning,” said Amy Sanford, Elementary Principal. “For some children, a shorter school day allows them to engage more fully, build confidence, and experience early success in a way that sets them up well for future growth.”

“This option allows us to meet children where they are,” said Dr. Kristy Taylor, Executive Director and Head of School. “Every child’s readiness looks different, and our responsibility is to provide a learning environment that supports growth without pressure.”

“From an enrollment perspective, this is about flexibility and partnership,” added Mekeisha Black, Director of Advancement and Enrollment. “Families can now choose a program that aligns with their child’s developmental needs while remaining fully connected to the LCS community.”

Program Structure for 2026–2027

Lenawee Christian School will continue to offer robust full-day programming while expanding flexibility:

  • Two full-day Kindergarten classes

  • One full-day Pre-K class

  • One class transitioning to a half-day Kindergarten/Pre-K split

This balanced model ensures families can choose the option that best fits their child’s developmental needs, without sacrificing instructional excellence or classroom experience.

Our team at LCS recognizes that half-day programs can be especially beneficial for younger students who are still developing independence, self-regulation, and school readiness skills. By offering both full-day and half-day formats, we aim to provide a supportive entry point into formal education while maintaining high academic expectations.

As a ministry rooted in faith, education, and community partnership, Lenawee Christian School remains committed to equipping students academically, spiritually, and socially, meeting families with flexibility and care during these formative years.
