Welcome to Lenawee Christian School’s Serve2Save Program!

Our Partnership with Families

At Lenawee Christian School, we are committed to walking alongside families in providing an exceptional, Christ-centered education. One of the ways we do this is through our financial aid program, which often provides thousands of dollars in annual savings for families.

Offering this level of support requires faithful stewardship and a strong partnership between the school and our families. The Serve to Save program strengthens that partnership. Participation in Serve to Save is a condition of receiving tuition assistance and allows families to actively support the mission.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering at LCS is about fostering a positive school culture. Your involvement helps provide a safe and encouraging environment where students can grow. While Serve to Save specifically supports families receiving tuition assistance, all LCS families are encouraged to serve, regardless of whether they are required to do so. Parents, grandparents, and guardians who volunteer play a vital role in strengthening our school community.

Annual Service Expectations

Families receiving financial aid (defined as anyone NOT paying full tuition) are expected to participate in Serve to Save as follows:

  • 20 hours per academic year for a single child family

  • 40 hours per academic year for a multiple-child family

Failure to meet required volunteer hours may impact eligibility for continued financial assistance, as outlined in the financial aid agreement.

What Counts as Volunteer Hours?

Volunteer opportunities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Classroom support

  • School events and programs

  • Athletics and extracurricular support

  • Fundraising activities

  • Campus projects and initiatives

Approved opportunities will be communicated throughout the year in Cougar News weekly.

Who Can Serve?

Any parent, guardian, or family member may volunteer on behalf of a family receiving financial assistance, once they have been approved through the background check process. If someone is volunteering on behalf of a family, this should be communicated with the Serve to Save Coordinator, and any hours served should be communicated to the family they are volunteering on behalf of. The family receiving assistance will be responsible for reporting the hours served.

Donating Hours

If a family volunteers beyond their required hours, they are welcome to donate their excess hours to another family to help them meet their requirements. This must be communicated in writing by the donating family and receiving family to the Serve to Save Coordinator, detailing the number of hours to be donated.

Tracking & Reporting Hours

  • Families are responsible for tracking and reporting their volunteer hours within their FACTS family portal

  • Instructions for logging hours will be provided in the Cougar News

  • Periodic updates may be shared to help families stay on track

Background Check Requirements

Any parent, guardian, or family member who wishes to participate in volunteer opportunities that involve direct or supervisory interaction with students must complete and pass a background screening prior to service. Background checks are conducted through the Michigan State Police Internet Criminal History Access Tool (ICHAT) or another approved screening process, depending on the nature of the volunteer role. To ensure continued vigilance and protection of our students, volunteers may be subject to periodic re-screening, typically on an annual basis or as determined by the school. No individual may volunteer in a role involving student interaction until the required screening has been approved.

Flexibility & Grace

We recognize that each family’s circumstances are unique. If challenges arise that impact your ability to meet service expectations, we encourage you to communicate with school administration. If scheduled school service hours are not feasible for a family, alternative volunteer opportunities may be arranged to work at The Centre during weekends or after regular operating hours, based on ministry needs and availability. These opportunities must be coordinated in advance with the appropriate supervisor.Requests for consideration or alternative arrangements will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
